South-Western Poultry Burgers
Comments: For healthier burgers, use whole wheat pita breads and do not add the cheese.

  • 1 pound [454 g] ground turkey or chicken
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] chopped drained hot jarred banana pepper slices
  • 13 cup [80 mL] sweet corn relish
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] freshly chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] ground Jalapeno pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 6 slices Old Cheddar cheese
  • Drained hot jarred banana pepper strips, to taste [to garnish]
  • 6 tomato slices, to garnish
  • 6 lettuce leaves, to garnish
  • Guacamole, to garnish [optional]
  • Into a bowl, well mix together ground turkey or chicken, chopped drained hot jarred banana pepper slices, sweet corn relish, freshly chopped cilantro, ground Jalapeno pepper, minced garlic, salt and some pepper.
  • Wet your hands then shape mixture into 6 patties [mixture will be sticky].
  • Lightly oil barbecue rack, then preheat barbecue to medium intensity.
  • Grill patties, barbecue lid closed for approximately 3 to 5 minutes on each side, until juices run clear when pierced.
  • Serve patties into hamburger buns, each garnished with a slice of Old Cheddar cheese, to taste with hot jarred banana pepper strips, each with one slice of tomato and 1 leaf lettuce, topped to taste with guacamole if desired.
