Thai-Style Beef Salad, Ginger Lime Salad Dressing
Comments: An excellent refreshing salad, low in carbohydrates.
Preparation time : 20 minutes.
*Mesclun : a mixture of young green leaves such as lettuce, spinach, lamb's, rocket, curly endive and raddicchio, and fragrant plants.

  • 1 [3/4-pound / 340-g] slice beef surloin tip
  • 6 cups [1.5 L] mesclun*
  • Vegetable oil
Marinade
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] pepper
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] grated lime rind
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] Asian chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] sesame oil
Ginger Lime Salad Dressing
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] freshly minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] soya sauce
  • 3 medium French shallots, minced
  • 1/2 'Jalapeņo' pepper, membranes removed and seeded, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] salt
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] olive oil
  • Into a flat glass dish or a platic bag with a zipper, mix together all marinade ingredients [minced garlic, salt, pepper, grated lime rind, Asian chili sauce and sesame oil].
  • Add slice of surloin and cover dish or seal plastic bag; leave to marinate, refrigerated for at least 6 hours, or overnight.
  • Preheat barbecue to high intensity.
  • Meanwhile, prepare ginger lime salad dressing.
  • Lower barbecue temperature to medium and lightly oil barbecue rack to prevent food from sticking to the rack.
  • Remove slice of beef from marinade, drain then barbecue onto hot barbecue rack for 2 minutes.
  • Move slice of beef slice by 1/4th of turn; barbecue for 2 minutes more.
  • Turn slice of beef over; barbecue for 2 minutes.
  • Move slice of beef slice by 1/4th of turn; barbecue for 2 minutes more.
  • Rack will then have given nice effects to the steak.
  • Evenly arrange 'mesclun' onto 4 individual plates.
  • Sideways, slice beef into thin slices; evenly arrange steak slices over 'mesclun'.
  • Sprinkle all over with ginger lime salad dressins, and serve.
Ginger Lime Salad Dressing
  • Into a blender, mix together freshly squeezed lime juice, freshly minced ginger, soya sauce, minced French shallots, finely chopped 'Jalapeņo' pepper and salt at low speed for 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Motor running slowly pour in olive oil, into a thin stream.
  • Pour salad dressing into a small casserole; over low heat, bring mixture to just a boil.
