Cheesy Slices

  • 1 pound [454 g] bacon slices
  • 2 1/2 pounds [1.13 kg] cheese [such as Cheddar, Mozarella, Emmenthal or Jarlsberg]
  • 2 teaspoons [10 g] butter
  • 1 bunch green onions, sliced
  • 1 pack fresh mushrooms, minced
  • 1 small glass white wine [approximately 1/2 cup - 125 mL]
  • 1 egg
  • 2 to 3 French bread sticks
  • Fry bacon slices until crunchy; crumble bacon slices.
  • Grate cheese; reserve.
  • Brown together green onion slices and minced mushrooms into melted butter for approximately 2 minutes.
  • Well beat in bacon crumbs, white wine and egg.
  • Vigourously beat in reserved grated cheese.
  • Cut French bread sticks into 1-inch [2.5-cm] thick slices.
  • Spread slices with cheese mixture.
  • Either freeze or bake slices into a preheated 350°F [180°C] oven to melt cheese.
  • Thaw frozen slices, refrigerated, before baking.
