Cheese Crackers
Servings: 12 to 15 crackers
  • 2 cups [280 g] all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 4 teaspoons [20 mL] baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1/4 cup [60 g] shortening
  • 1/2 cup [225 g] grated Cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup [190 mL] milk
  • Preheat oven to 450 to 475°F [230 to 246°C].
  • Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Cut in shortening, until mixture resembles cornmeal.
  • Add grated Cheddar cheese.
  • Pour in milk, mixing until soft.
  • Knead dough until smooth.
  • Flatten or roll dough until 1/2-inch [1.3-cm] thick.
  • Cut dough, using a cookie cutter; arrange crackers onto a greased baking sheet.
  • Bake into preheated oven, for 12 to 15 minutes.
