A handmade flat bread from India.
The unleavened whole-wheat flour/water dough is first patted into a paper-thin, flat pancake which resembles a tortilla and is then baked onto a hot griddle.
If desired, serve with Feta cheese.

| Ingredients | Preparation |
- 2 cups [280 g] all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1/4 cup [60 mL] salad oil
- 7 tablespoons [105 mL] water
- Shortening
- Butter or margarine [optional]

- Sift together flour and salt.
- Pour in salad oil and water, mixing well with your hands.
- Dough will be very stiff.
- Knead dough for 5 to 7 minutes, until dough looks shiny.
- Pinch off pieces of dough, about 1 1/2 inches [4 cm] in diameter pieces; roll each piece into a 6-inch [15-cm] circle.
- Brown on both sides onto a lightly greased, hot griddle.
- Serve, dotted with butter or margarine if desired.
