- 2 cups [280 g] all-purpose flour, sifted
- 4 teaspoons [20 mL] baking powder
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1/4 cup [60 g] shortening
- 3/4 cup [190 mL] milk

- Preheat oven to 450 to 475°F [230 to 246°C].
- Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
- Cut shortening into flour mixture, until mixture resembles cornmeal.
- Pour in milk, mixing until smooth.
- Knead dough until smooth.
- Flatten or roll dough until 12-inch [1.3-cm] thick.
- Cut dough using a biscuit cutter; arrange onto a greased baking sheet.
- Bake into preheated oven, for 12 to 15 minutes.
