Hot Spicy or Orange Chocolate Drinks

Hot Spicy Chocolate Drink
  • 2 1/2 cups [625 mL] milk
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] allspice
  • 3 1/2 ounces [100 g] dark chocolate
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/3 cup [80 mL] whipping cream, lightly whipped
Hot Orange Chocolate Drink
  • 2 1/2 ounces [70 g] dark orange-flavored chocolate
  • 2 1/2 cups [625 mL] milk
  • 3 tablespoons [45 mL] rum
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] whipping cream
  • Grated nutmeg, to taste
Hot Spicy Chocolate Drink
  • Pour milk into a small casserole and sprinkle milk with allspice.
  • Break-up dark chocolate into squares, and add to milk.
  • Heat mixture over low heat until milk is almost boiling, stirring to prevent milk from burning at the bottom of the casserole.
  • Arrange 2 cinnamon sticks into each of 2 mugs before pouring in spicy hot chocolate.
  • Top each with a dollop whipped cream, and serve.
Hot Orange Chocolate Drink
  • Break-up orange-flavored dark chocolate into squares; transfer into a small casserole and pour in milk.
  • Heat mixture over low heat until milk is almost boiling, stirring to prevent milk from burning at the bottom of the casserole.
  • Remove from heat and pour in rum.
  • Pour hot orange chocolate into 2 mugs.
  • Delicately, over the back of a spoon, slowly pour whipping cream over hot orange chocolate so that it will float over hot chocolate, or swirl whipping cream on top of hot orange chocolate.
  • Sprinkle each with grated nutmeg, and serve.
