- 1 cup [200 g] sugar
- 3 cups [750 mL] boiling water
- Rind of 1/2 a lemon
- 18 cloves
- 1 [6-inch / 15-cm] cinnamon stick
- 2 [26-ounce / 780-mL each] bottles red table wine
- Nutmeg

- Dissolve sugar into boiling water.
- Add lemon rind, cloves and cinnamon stick.
- Boil for 15 minutes.
- Filter into the upper part of a double boiler; pour in wine.
- Heat until hot.
- Serve hot, sprinkled with a little nutmeg.
