- 24 ounces [720 mL] milk
- 3/4 cup [150 g] sugar
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] vanilla extract
- 24 ounces [720 mL] very strong coffee

- Heat milk over medium heat; when it starts to boil, lower heat to stop boiling.
- Slightly melt sugar into a 9 to 10-inch [22.5 to 25 cm] deep casserole [minimum].
- When sugar is caramelized, pour in warm milk, being careful as milk could spatter.
- Grate the bottom of the casserole; mixing remaining caramel into milk.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour milk into a heat-proof pitcher.
- At the table, pour an equal quantity of milk and strong coffee into each cup.
