- 1/2 cup [115 g] shortening
- 1/2 cup [100 g] sugar
- 1/4 cup [60 mL] brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] vanilla
- 1 cup [140 g] sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon [3.75 mL] salt
- 1 [6-ounce / 170-g] bag semi-sweet chocolate chips [1 cup / 250 mL]
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped walnuts

- Preheat oven to 375°F [190°C].
- Cream together shortenint, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla until fluffy.
- Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
- Stir into creamed mixture.
- Then stir in chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
- Drop teaspoonfuls mixture, 2 inches [5 cm] apart, onto a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake into preheated oven, for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Transfer onto wire racks, to cool completely.
