- 1/3 cup [75 g] butter
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] maple flavoring
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup [70 g] sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] salt
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] baking powder
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] raisins
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped walnuts

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Into a saucepan, melt together butter and brown sugar.
- Leave to cool slightly before beating in maple flavoring and egg.
- Sift together flour, salt and baking powder.
- Stir into butter mixture.
- Stir in raisins and chopped walnuts.
- Evenly spread dough into a greased square 8-inch [20-cm] baking pan.
- Bake into preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Leave to cool slightly, before cutting into bars.
