- 3/4 cup [175 g] golden shortening
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] milk
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] vanilla
- 1 cup [250 mL] well-packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups [210 g] all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 3/4 teaspoon [2 mL] baking soda
- 1 cup [250 mL] chocolate chips

- Preheat oven to 375°F [190°C].
- Cream golden shortening.
- Add egg, milk, vanilla and brown sugar; beat until smooth.
- Mix together flour, salt and baking soda; add to shortening/egg mixture.
- Lightly mix in chocolate chips.
- Drop mixture, 2 tablespoons [30 mL] at a time, onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake into preheated oven, for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Transfer onto a wire rack; leave to cool completely.
