Chocolate Chip Cookies

Comments: For a change, try using 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped dates and 1/2 cup [125 mL] raisins instead of chocolate chips.

  • 3/4 cup [175 g] golden shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] milk
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] vanilla
  • 1 cup [250 mL] well-packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups [210 g] all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon [2 mL] baking soda
  • 1 cup [250 mL] chocolate chips
  • Preheat oven to 375°F [190°C].
  • Cream golden shortening.
  • Add egg, milk, vanilla and brown sugar; beat until smooth.
  • Mix together flour, salt and baking soda; add to shortening/egg mixture.
  • Lightly mix in chocolate chips.
  • Drop mixture, 2 tablespoons [30 mL] at a time, onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake into preheated oven, for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Transfer onto a wire rack; leave to cool completely.
