- 4 cups [560 g] flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] nutmeg
- 12 teaspoon [2.5 mL] ground clove
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] ground black pepper
- 1 cup [250 mL] cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] baking soda
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] cinnamon
- 1 cup [200 g] sugar
- 1 cup [225 g] shortening
- 2 cups [500 mL] milk

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Into a large bowl, mix together all dry ingredients [flour, nutmeg, ground clove, ground black pepper, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and sugar].
- Make a well in the middle; add shortening and pour in milk.
- With your fingers, well mix together all the ingredients [dough will be really sticky].
- Shape dough into tiny balls, of the size of nuts.
- Arrange onto a cookie sheet.
- Bake into preheated oven, for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Transfer onto wire racks; leave to cool completely.
