- 2 cups [500 mL] milk
- 1/3 cup [75 g] sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] salt
- 1 tablespoon [8.75 g] flour
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] vanilla
- Nutmeg, to taste

- Preheat oven to 325°F [160°C].
- Heat milk until boiling [150°F - 65°C on top].
- Mix together sugar, salt and flour; add to boiling milk.
- Pour mixture over beaten eggs, beating until well combined and sugar has dissolved.
- Stir in vanilla and, if desired, some nutmeg.
- Pour into a buttered 4-cup [1-L] oven-safe dish; transfer dish into a casserole, filled with some hot water.
- Bake into preheated oven, for 25 to 30 minutes, until a knife comes out clean from the center of the custard.
