Baked Custard
Servings: 4 cups [1 L]
  • 2 cups [500 mL] milk
  • 1/3 cup [75 g] sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] salt
  • 1 tablespoon [8.75 g] flour
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] vanilla
  • Nutmeg, to taste
  • Preheat oven to 325°F [160°C].
  • Heat milk until boiling [150°F - 65°C on top].
  • Mix together sugar, salt and flour; add to boiling milk.
  • Pour mixture over beaten eggs, beating until well combined and sugar has dissolved.
  • Stir in vanilla and, if desired, some nutmeg.
  • Pour into a buttered 4-cup [1-L] oven-safe dish; transfer dish into a casserole, filled with some hot water.
  • Bake into preheated oven, for 25 to 30 minutes, until a knife comes out clean from the center of the custard.
