- 1/2 cup [115 g] butter or margarine
- 2 cups [400 g] sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 cups [350 g] all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons [7.5 mL] baking soda
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] allspice
- 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] applesauce
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] raisins
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped nuts

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Grease and lightly flour a 13 x 9 x 2-inch [33 x 23 x 5-cm] baking pan.
- Cream butter or margarine.
- Add sugar, creaming mixture until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
- Alternately with applesauce, add flour mixture to creamed mixture.
- Stir in raisins and chopped nuts.
- Evenly spoon batter into prepared pan.
- Bake into preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes, until done.
- Leave cake to cool in pan.
