Smooth Cream Cheese Cherry Squares

For lighter squares, do not add any butter nor sugar and use low-fat whipped cream instead of regular whipped cream, low-fat cream cheese instead of regular cream cheese... and these with be just as delicious!
As a nice special Christmas Time touch, as decorations, holly leaves and tiny red berries will accentuate the color of the cherries!
Servings: 12 squares
IngredientsPreparation
  • 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] Graham cookie crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon [15 g] butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 tablespoon [15 g] sugar
Filling
  • 5 1/4 ounces [150 g] cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 [4-cup / 1-L] container whipped topping
  • 1 [14-ounce / 398-mL] can cherry pie filling
  • Preheat oven to 400°F [200°C].
  • Into a blender, whip filling cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add whipped topping and mix for approximately 10 minutes, until really smooth; reserve.
  • Meanwhile, into a bowl, mix togehter Graham cracker crumbs, melted butter or margarine and sugar.
  • Press Graham cracker crumb mixture into a 9-inch [23-cm] oven-safe see-through glass dish [to see layers from the outside].
  • Brown crust into preheated oven, for approximately 5 minutes; leave to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Then delicately spread cherry pie filling all over cooled crust.
  • Delicately top filling with reserved cream cheese/whipped topping mixture.
  • Refrigerate until really cold, before cutting into squares to serve.
