Economical Doughnuts

Comments: Economical as water is used instead of milk.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup [115 g] margarine
  • 1 cup [200 g] sugar
  • 1 cup [250 mL] brown sugar
  • 3 cups [420 g] flour
  • 5 teaspoons [25 mL] baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1 cup [250 mL] water
  • Shortening or oil, for frying
  • Well mix together eggs, margarine, sugar and brown sugar.
  • Sift together flour, baking pwder and salt.
  • Alternately with water, mix dry ingredients into eggs mixture starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  • Refrigerate batter overnight.
  • On the next day, roll then cut dough into doughnut shapes.
  • Preheat some shortening or oil into a large casserole or a deep-fryer until realy hot.
  • Deep-fry doughnuts, a few at a time into really hot oil until golden brown on both sides, turning once.
  • Transfer onto papper toweling to absorb excess oil.
