Devil's Sweet Pickle or Relish Sauce

Comments: Excellent with Chinese fondue and beef.
For those who prefer it 'hot', add more Tabasco sauce, one drop at a time!
Servings: Approximately 1 1/2 cups [375 mL]

  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] corn oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] minced sweet pickles or relish
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] vinegar
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] ketchup
  • 1/3 cup [80 mL] Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] salt
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] dry mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] Tabasco sauce
  • Heat corn oil into a saucepan; brown together minced garlic and chopped onion for approximately 3 minutes.
  • Stir in cornstarch; cook for 1 minute.
  • Mix in minced sweet pickles or relish, vinegar, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Bring to boil; stir in salt, dry mustard and Tabasco sauce.
  • Pour into a metal fondue pot.
