- 1 pound [454 g] ground beef
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] pepper
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] catsup
- 4 slices Old Cheddar cheese
- 4 slices tomato
- 4 slices Bermuda onion
- 4 hamburger buns, halved, toasted then buttered

- Delicately mix together ground beef, salt and pepper.
- Shape ground beef into 4 approximately 1-inch [2.5-cm] thick patties.
- Fry ground beef patties over medium heat for 8 minutes on each side for medium done patties, or to taste.
- Then, evenly coat patties with catsup.
- Top each with a slice Old Cheddar cheese [the heat from the patties will slightly melt the cheese].
- Top each slice of cheese with a slice of tomato, then with a slice Bermuda onion.
- Transfer garnished ground beef patties onto lower halves of toasted buttered hamburger buns.
- Top with remaining hamburger bun halves, and serve.
