- 1/2 cup [115 g] butter or shortening
- 1 cup [250 mL] brown sugar
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2 cups [280 g] sifted flour
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] salt
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] baking soda
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] milk
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] raisins, floured

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Cream together butter or shortening and brown sugar.
- Mix in beaten eggs.
- Into a clean bowl, mix together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and cocoa powder.
- Delicately fold dry ingredients into eggs mixture, being careful not to overbeat.
- Stir in floured raisins.
- Fill muffin tins up to 2/3rds.
- Bake into preheated oven, for approximately 30 minutes.
