French Toasts

Comments: Excellent served along with maple syrup, or simply sprinkled with a little sugar, brown sugar or icing sugar.
Servings: Enough mixture for 4 to 6 bread slices

  • 1 or 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] milk
  • 4 to 6 day-old bread slices
  • Butter
  • Slightly beat egg[s] into a shallow bowl, then beat in milk.
  • Heat a little butter into a frypan until just golden.
  • One at a time, dip bread slices into milk-egg mixture until well-coated on both sides.
  • Fry bread slices side-by-side into hot butter until golden brown.
  • Turn over and fry on other side.
  • Serve toasts immediately, hot.
