Chinese-Style Beef Macaroni

  • 1 cup [250 mL] macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons [60 mL] oil
  • 1/2 pound [227 g] beef, cut into strips
  • 4 tablespoons [60 mL] soya sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] pepper
  • 3/4 cup [190 mL] mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] celery, cut diagonally
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] sweet pepper, sliced
  • 1 can bean sprouts
  • 2 cups [500 mL] beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] water
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] MSG
  • Heat oil in large frying pan; add meat, soya sauce, garlic, salt and pepper.
  • Saute 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Add mushrooms, celery, onion and pepper; cook 3 minutes.
  • Add broth and bring to a boil.
  • Add cooked macaroni and bean sprouts; cook 2 minutes.
  • Dilute cornstarch and MSG in cold water and thicken sauce with this mixture.
  • Serve.
