- 1/3 cup [80 mL] onion, chopped
- 1/3 cup [80 mL] celery, diced
- 1/3 cup [80 mL] carrot, chopped
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] butter
- 1 pound [454 g] ground beef
- 1 tablespoon [15 mL] oregano
- 1/4 cup [60 mL] dry white wine
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] salt
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] black pepper
- 28 ounces [796 mL] canned tomatoes
- 1 pound [454 g] fettucini
- 1/3 cup [80 mL] Parmesan cheese, shredded

- In a large dish, brown onion, celery and carrots.
- Add meat, oregano and brown, stirring.
- Add wine and seasonings; simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes.
- Add tomatoes and cook another 15 minutes, uncovered.
- Reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare fettucini according to package instructions until tender.
- Drain well, coat with sauce, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and serve.
