- 3 pounds [1.4 kg] ground beef or veal [choose one or the other]
- 3 cups [750 mL] celery
- 5 large onions
- 5 large cloves of garlic
- 2 green peppers, diced
- 4 cans diced tomatoes [19 ounces / 540 ml each]
- 4 cans mushrooms
- 19 ounces [540 mL] tomato juice
- 2 can tomato paste [13 ounces / 370 ml each]
- 20 ounces [568 mL] tomato sauce
- 1 bunch fresh parsley, chopped
- 8 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] crushed red pepper
- 8 envelopes sugar substitute
- 5 tablespoons [75 mL] salt
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] pepper
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] oregano
- 1 tablespoon [15 mL] basil
- 1 tablespoon [15 mL] Italian spices
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] allspice

- Brown meat in a bit of oil.
- When meat is brown, add all other ingredients.
- Cover and place in oven at 350°F [180°C] for 3 hours [no need to stir].
