Baked Spaghetti Sauce

  • 3 pounds [1.4 kg] ground beef or veal [choose one or the other]
  • 3 cups [750 mL] celery
  • 5 large onions
  • 5 large cloves of garlic
  • 2 green peppers, diced
  • 4 cans diced tomatoes [19 ounces / 540 ml each]
  • 4 cans mushrooms
  • 19 ounces [540 mL] tomato juice
  • 2 can tomato paste [13 ounces / 370 ml each]
  • 20 ounces [568 mL] tomato sauce
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley, chopped
  • 8 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] crushed red pepper
  • 8 envelopes sugar substitute
  • 5 tablespoons [75 mL] salt
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] pepper
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] oregano
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] basil
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] Italian spices
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] allspice
  • Brown meat in a bit of oil.
  • When meat is brown, add all other ingredients.
  • Cover and place in oven at 350°F [180°C] for 3 hours [no need to stir].
