Chinese-Style Pasta

  • 8 ounces [227 g] macaroni or fusilli
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] vegetable oil
  • 1 pound [454 g] chicken, pork or beef, cut into small cubes [even ground beef]
  • 2 cups [500 mL] broccoli florets
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 1 red or green pepper, cut into strips
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] cornstarch
  • 1 cup [250 mL] chicken broth [beef broth if using beef]
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] soya sauce
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] ketchup
  • Cook pasta.
  • Heat oil in a wok and sauter meat until golden.
  • Remove meat and keep warm.
  • Sauter broccoli, carrot and pepper while stirring, until vegetables are just tender.
  • Dilute cornstarch in broth, add garlic, soya sauce and ketchup.
  • Pour over vegetables, cook while stirring, until thickening.
  • Add meat and warm pasta.
