Spicy Pizza Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 [28-ounce / 796-mL] can tomatoes, chopped
  • 6 tablespoons [90 mL] tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] mixed Italian fine herbs
  • Crushed chiles
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  • Pinch of sugar
  • Into a large casserole, brown chopped onion, green pepper and garlic into hot oil.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, tomato paste and mixed Italian fine herbs.
  • Stir well.
  • Season to taste with crushed chiles, Tabasco and Worcestershire sauces, salt and pepper.
  • Well stir in sugar.
  • Simmer over low heat, uncovered, for 1 hour, until quite thick.
  • Cool.
