- 1 [10-ounce / 284-mL] can Italian tomatoes
- 1/3 cup [80 mL] tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped onion
- Minced garlic, to taste
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] basil
- 1/2 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] sugar substitute

- Pour tomatoes into a heavy-bottom saucepan; crush tomatoes.
- Add tomato sauce, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, bay leaf and sugar substitute.
- Thoroughly mix.
- Simmer for 30 minutes, over low heat.
