Healthy Pizza Sauce

  • 1 [10-ounce / 284-mL] can Italian tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup [80 mL] tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped onion
  • Minced garlic, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] basil
  • 1/2 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] sugar substitute
  • Pour tomatoes into a heavy-bottom saucepan; crush tomatoes.
  • Add tomato sauce, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, bay leaf and sugar substitute.
  • Thoroughly mix.
  • Simmer for 30 minutes, over low heat.
