Pizza Sauce [simplified]

  • 1 [28-ounce / 796-mL] can whole tomatoes
  • 2 medium-size onions, chopped
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] salt substitute
  • Pepper and salt, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] crushed chiles, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] oregano
  • 2 tablespoons [30 g] sugar
  • Cornstarch [optional]
  • Water [optional]
  • Into a large enough casserole, mix together tomatoes, onions, bay leaves, salt substitute, peper and salt, crushed chiles, oregano and sugar.
  • Simmer over low heat for 30 to 45 minutes.
  • If desired, thicken sauce with a mixture of cornstarch and water.
