- 20 cucumbers
- 8 to 10 onions [10 medium-size onions]
- 1/2 sweet red pepper [for its colour]
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] pickling salt
- 5 cups [1.25 L] sugar
- 5 cups [1.25 L] vinegar
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] turmeric
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] ground clove

- Brush, slice and seed cucumbers.
- Mince cucumbers, along with onions and sweet red pepper.
- Sprinkle minced vegetables with pickling salt,
- Leave to soak for 4 hours.
- Drain slowly for 1 hour.
- Mix in sugar, vinegar, turmeric and ground clove.
- Bring to a boil over high heat; boil for 20 minutes.
- Pour into sterilized jars; seal.
