- 9 cups [2.25 L] water
- 4 cups [1 L] vinegar
- 1 cup [250 mL] pickling salt
- Small cucumbers
- Fennel sticks [3 per jar]
- Garlic cloves [1 per jar]
- Bay leaves [2 per jar]

- Boil together water, vinegar and pickling salt for 5 minutes.
- Fill jars with whole or cut lengthwise cucumbers.
- Add fennel sticks, garlic cloves and bay leaves to each jar.
- Pour hot vinegar mixture into jars; seal.
- Leave to marinate for at least 1 week before eating.
