Grilled Mozzarella Cheese Sandwich

  • 6 slices Italian bread [1/3-inch / 8-mm thick]
  • 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] milk
  • 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] grated Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons [45 mL] oil
  • 3 tablespoons [45 mL] butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • Remove crusts from bread slices.
  • Soak bread slices into milk.
  • Evenly sprinkle bread slices with grated Mozzarella cheese.
  • Well season with salt and pepper.
  • Cover with remaining bread slices.
  • Half sandwiches.
  • Sprinkle sandwiches with flour; dip each sandwich in beaten eggs.
  • Over medium heat, into a large frypan, heat together oil and butter.
  • Brown sandwiches for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until cheese melts and bread slices are golden brown.
  • Drain sandwiches onto paper toweling.
  • Cut sandwiches into small squares and serve, hot.
