- 1 3/4 cup [440 mL] canned chick peas, rinsed and drained
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] vegetable oil
- 1 medium-size onion, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 cup [250 mL] green pepper, chopped
- 1 3/4 cup [440 mL] canned tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup [60 mL] cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon [15 mL] chili powder
- Pinch of Cayenne pepper
- 8 hamburger buns

- Grossly chop chick peas in a food processor; reserve.
- In a large frypan, in hot oil, brown chopped onion, minced garlic and chopped green pepper for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often.
- Mix in reserved chick peas, tomato sauce, cider vinegar, tomato paste, brown sugar, chili powder and Cayenne pepper.
- Cook for 9 to 15 minutes, until thickened, stirring from time to time.
- Stuff hamburger buns with mixture and serve immediately.
