Easy Aspic Glaze

Comments: Use to glaze open-face sandwiches, and cracker bites For maximum freshness, keep glazed sandwiches or bites refrigerated no longer than 4 hours, until ready to serve.
This glaze can also be used on top of meat-based plates with vegetables set-in for garnish.
Servings: Enough for 18 to 20 open-face sandwiches
  • 1 [1-tablespoon / 15-mL] pack unflavoured gelatin
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] cold water
  • 1 cup [250 mL] boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] soy sauce
  • Assorted open-face sandwiches
Variation
  • Garlic powder
  • Into a small bowl, sprinkle gelatin over cold water; allow to stand until gelatine is moistened.
  • Pour in boiling water, stirring constantly until gelatin is completely dissolved.
  • Stir in soy sauce.
  • Chill, stirring occasionally, until mixture mounds slightly when dropped from a spoon.
  • Meanwhile, layer bread slices onto wire racks, onto a cookie sheet.
  • Garnish bread slices to your liking.
  • Carefully spoon glaze over garnishings, to completely cover; chill until set.
Variation
  • Add a generous dash garlic powder to gelatin mixture.
