Surprise Sandwiches
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] grated onion
  • 1/2 cup [115 g] melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] prepared mustard
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] poppy seeds
  • Hamburger buns
  • Boiled ham slices
  • Swiss cheese slices
  • One day before serving, mix together grated onion, melted butter, mustard and poppy seed.
  • Let stand at room temperature for flavors blend.
  • Evenly spread mixture over top and bottom of hamburger buns.
  • Following given order, fill each hamburger bun with 1 slice of ham, 1 slice of Swiss cheese and 1 more slice of ham.
  • Individually wrap each bun into al foil; refrigerate.
  • To serve, let buns stand at room temperature for a few hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
  • Heat wrapped buns into preheated oven, for 15 to 20 minutes.
