Grilled Ham and Pastrami Sandwich

  • 1 uncut loaf Italian bread
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • Ketichup
  • Margarine
  • 1 cup [250 mL] sweet onion slices
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] sweet green pepper slices, membranes removed and seeded
  • 2 Jalapeno peppers, diced
  • 1 cup [250 mL] fresh mushroom slices
  • 4 slices Monterey Jack cheese
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices lean ham
  • 8 slices pastrami
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped seeded tomato
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] ripe olive slices
  • Preheat oven broiler.
  • Half bread lengthwise.
  • Spread each half with mayonnaise, a small amount of mustard and a small amount of ketchup.
  • Stirring, fry together sweet onion and sweet green pepper slices, Jalapeno pepper dices and mushroom slices into a small amount of margarine.
  • Top each half of bread with mixture; transfer under preheated broiler until bubbling and bread is slightly toasted.
  • Top one half of bread with Monterey Jack cheese slices, the other half with Cheddar cheese slices.
  • Return to broiler until cheese melts.
  • Meanwhile, warm-up ham and pastrami slices into a skillet.
  • Arrange ham and pastrami slices on top of melted cheese of bottom half of bread.
  • Top with chopped seeded tomato and ripe olive slices.
  • Top with top half of bread.
  • Slice into individual servings, and serve.
