- 2 tablespoons [30 g] butter
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] freshly ground pepper
- 2 tablespooons [17.5 g] flour
- 1 cup [250 mL] beef broth*
- Salt, to taste

- Melt butter into a small saucepan; add onion slices.
- When butter is slightly brown, stir in fresly ground pepper and flour; brown flour over low heat.
- Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring; boil for 1 minute.
- Remove onion slices; salt and leave to simmer over low heat for 15 minutes.
- *If sauce becomes too thick, stir in a little more beef broth.
