Brown Sauce

Servings: 1 cup [250 mL]
  • 2 tablespoons [30 g] butter
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] freshly ground pepper
  • 2 tablespooons [17.5 g] flour
  • 1 cup [250 mL] beef broth*
  • Salt, to taste
  • Melt butter into a small saucepan; add onion slices.
  • When butter is slightly brown, stir in fresly ground pepper and flour; brown flour over low heat.
  • Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring; boil for 1 minute.
  • Remove onion slices; salt and leave to simmer over low heat for 15 minutes.
  • *If sauce becomes too thick, stir in a little more beef broth.
