- 4 tablespoons [60 mL] oil
- 1 very large onion, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 1 [20-ounce / 568-mL] can tomato juice
- 1 [20-ounce / 568-mL] jar ketchup
- Pinch barbecue seasonings
- 5 tablespoons [75 mL] Worcestershire sauce
- 5 tablespoons [75 mL] brown sauce
- 1 tablespoon [15 mL] vinegar
- Juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] mustard
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- A little onion salt
- Any other spices, to taste

- Melt together chopped onion and celery stalk into hot oil.
- Mix in tomato juice, ketchup, barbecue seasonings, Worcestershire and brown sauces, vinegar, lemon juice, mustard, salt and pepper, onion salt and any other desired spices.
- Bring to a boil; simmer for approximately 15 minutes, longer for a thicker sauce.
- For a smooth sauce, strain mixture.
