Basic Barbecue Sauce

Comments: Excellent served along with chicken, pork chops, spareribs and hamburgers.
Servings: Approximately 2 cups [500 mL]
IngredientsPreparation
  • 2 tablespoons [30 g] butter
  • 1 onion, really finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups [500 mL] water
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] salt
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] chili powder
  • 4 tablespoons [60 mL] brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons [60 mL] vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons [60 mL] Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup [250 mL] catsup
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] Tabasco sauce
  • Melt butter into a saucepan.
  • Soften together butter grated onion and minced garlic into melted butter.
  • Pour in water before mixing in salt, chili powder, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, catsup and Tabasco sauce.
  • Stir until well combined.
  • Leave to simmer over medium-low heat for 30 minutes.
  • Leave to cool to room temperature before serving.
  • Keep refrigerated.
