Caramel, Almonds Triangles, Bars or Squares

IngredientsPreparation
Dough
  • 1 cup [250 mL] flour
  • 1 cup [250 mL] oatmeal
  • 1 cup [250 mL] brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ]5 mL] baking soda
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] butter
Filling
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup [80 mL] brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] butter
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] heavy cream or evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] sliced almonds
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons [7.5 mL] vanilla
Dough
  • Crumble together flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, baking soda and butter.
  • Firmly press into a 14-cup [3.5-L] pan.
  • Bake in a preheated 350°F [180°C] oven, for approximately 10 minutes.
Filling
  • In a medium-sized casserole, mix together corn syrup, brown sugar, butter and cream or evaporated milk.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring, until boiling.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in almond slices and vanilla.
  • Even pour over crust.
  • Bake in a preheated 350°F [180°C] oven, for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden.
  • Cool on rack.
  • Cut into triangles, bars or squares.
  • Keep refrigerated.
