- 14 ounces [398 g] vanilla caramels [about 50]
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] water
- Dash salt
- 6 whole medium apples, well-rinsed and patted dry
- Chopped walnuts, to coat caramel apples [optional]

- Stirring often, melt vanilla caramels with water into the top part of a double boiler, until smooth.
- Add salt.
- Line a cookie sheet with wax paper.
- Stick a wooden stick halfway up the core of each apple.
- Dip apples into melted caramel mixture until bottom halves of apples are completely coated with mixture.
- If desired, roll whole or top half of apples into chopped walnuts, until coated.
- Arrange apples onto prepared cookie sheet.
- Chill until caramel coating is firm, then enjoy!
