Caramel Apples

  • 14 ounces [398 g] vanilla caramels [about 50]
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] water
  • Dash salt
  • 6 whole medium apples, well-rinsed and patted dry
  • Chopped walnuts, to coat caramel apples [optional]
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • Stirring often, melt vanilla caramels with water into the top part of a double boiler, until smooth.
  • Add salt.
  • Line a cookie sheet with wax paper.
  • Stick a wooden stick halfway up the core of each apple.
  • Dip apples into melted caramel mixture until bottom halves of apples are completely coated with mixture.
  • If desired, roll whole or top half of apples into chopped walnuts, until coated.
  • Arrange apples onto prepared cookie sheet.
  • Chill until caramel coating is firm, then enjoy!
