- 8 ounces [227 g] fresh or canned bean sprouts [reserve juice]
- 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] flour
- 3 teaspoons [15 mL] baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon [3.75 mL] salt
- 1 beaten egg
- 1 cup [250 mL] milk [or less with reserved juice]
- Frying oil

- Clean bean sprouts; reserve.
- Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
- Combine beaten egg, milk [mixed with juice if using canned bean sprouts] and bean sprouts.
- Mix into flour mixture, until just moistened.
- Dropping batter from a tablespoon [15 mL]; deep fry into hot [375°F / 190°C] oil until golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Drain onto paper toweling.
- Serve immediately.
