- Boiling water
- 2 pounds [1 kg] green [string] beans
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] butter or margarine [1/4-stick]
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] salt
- 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] pepper

- Into a 12-inch [30-cm] skillet, over high heat, into 1 inch [2.5 cm] deep boiling water, bring green beans to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender-crisp; drain.
- Add butter or margarine, salt and pepper.
- Toss to coat well.
