- 4 large tomatoes
- Butter
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] freshly chopped oregano or marjoram or
1 teaspoon [5 mL] dried oregano or marjoram, crumbled
- 1/2 clove garlic, minced [optional]
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1 cup [250 mL] buttered breadcrumbs
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] freshly ground pepper

- Half tomatoes; arrange tomatoes, cut side up, into a shallow, buttered baking dish.
- Mix together fresh or dried oregano or marjoram, garlic [if desired], salt, breadcrumbs and pepper.
- Sprinkle breadcrumbs mixture evenly over tomatoes.
- Broil, watching carefully, until crumbs brown and tomatoes heat slightly.
- Do not overcook, the texture and the shape of the tomatoes would be ruined.
- Serve, hot or cold.
