Baked Beans

  • 1 pound [454 g] navy beans
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] dry mustard
  • 1/2 pound [227 g] lean salt pork [optional]
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] molasses
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] pepper
  • 2 to 3 onions, sliced
  • Water
  • Preheat oven to 300°F [150°C].
  • Into a bean jar, mix together beans, dry mustard, salt pork, molasses, brown sugar and onion slices.
  • Fill jar with water; cover.
  • Bake into preheated oven overnight, for approximately 8 hours.
