- 1 pound [454 g] navy beans
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] dry mustard
- 1/2 pound [227 g] lean salt pork [optional]
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] molasses
- 1/4 cup [60 mL] brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] pepper
- 2 to 3 onions, sliced

- Preheat oven to 300°F [150°C].
- Into a bean jar, mix together beans, dry mustard, salt pork, molasses, brown sugar and onion slices.
- Fill jar with water; cover.
- Bake into preheated oven overnight, for approximately 8 hours.
