Crisp Golden Potato Slices

  • 6 potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup [190 mL] fine breadcrumbs
    or
    2 1/2 tablespoons [22 g] flour
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] milk
  • 3 tablespoons [45 g] butter
  • Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
  • Into a buttered casserole, layer potato and onion slices.
  • Sprinkle all over with just a little of the breadcrumbs or flour.
  • Salt milk; pour into casserole.
  • Sprinkle all over with remaining breadcrumbs or flour; dot with butter.
  • Cover casserole; bake into preheated oven, for 30 minutes.
  • Uncover casserole.
  • Bake for 20 to 30 minutes longer, until golden on top and potatoes are tender.
