- 6 potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup [190 mL] fine breadcrumbs
or
2 1/2 tablespoons [22 g] flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] milk
- 3 tablespoons [45 g] butter

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Into a buttered casserole, layer potato and onion slices.
- Sprinkle all over with just a little of the breadcrumbs or flour.
- Salt milk; pour into casserole.
- Sprinkle all over with remaining breadcrumbs or flour; dot with butter.
- Cover casserole; bake into preheated oven, for 30 minutes.
- Uncover casserole.
- Bake for 20 to 30 minutes longer, until golden on top and potatoes are tender.
