- 12 cups [3 L] milk
- 2 1/4 cups [560 ml] sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoon [6 ml] salt
- 25 to 30 tablespoons [375 to 450 ml] cornstarch
- 15 tablespoons [225 ml] cold milk
- Vanilla, to taste
- Fruits, to decorate [optional]

- Heat together milk, sugar and salt.
- Mix cornstarch in cold milk.
- Add to heated milk.
- Transfer to a double-boiler.
- Cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stiring constantly, until thickened.
- Take away from heat.
- Add vanilla.
- Pour into individual small bowls; if desired, decorate with fruits.
- Mixture thickens as it cools.
