- 4 1/2 ounces [128 g] soft unsalted butter
- 4 1/2 ounces [128 g] sugar
- 3 egg whites
- 4 1/2 ounces [128 g] sifted flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons [7.5 ml] vanilla

- Preheat the oven to 400°F [200°C].
- Work the butter and sugar together until smooth and creamy.
- Add the unbeaten egg whites one by one, stirring well after each addition.
- Resift the flour into the mixture and add the vanilla.
- Using a pastry tube fitted with a small plain tip, force 3 inch [7 cm] strips on to a buttered cookies sheet, leaving space between each strip.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned around the edge.
