Atlanta's Braised Ham
Comments: Easy, it can be made ahead of time and frozen.
It takes only 20 minutes to make!

  • 1 [7-pound / 3-kg] ham [half or whole]
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] prepared mustard
  • 1/3 cup [80 mL] firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] horseradish
  • 18 to 20 cloves
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] Coke
  • Preheat oven to 325°F [160°C].
  • Bake ham for 25 minutes per pound for a half ham, a little less for a whole ham.
  • Well mix together mustard, brown sugar, peanut butter and horseradish; set aside.
  • About 45 minutes before the end of baking time, remove ham from oven.
  • Remove rind and fat from ham; remove and throw away excess fat from roasting pan.
  • Prick top of ham with cloves then evenly coat all over with mustard mixture.
  • Pour coke into roasting pan; transfer ham back into oven until done, basting often with cooking juices.
