- 1/3 cup [75 g] shortening
- 1 1/2 cups [330 g] sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 2/3 cups [230 g] flour
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] baking powder
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon [3.75 mL] salt
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] ground clove
- 1/3 cup [80 mL] water
- 1 cup [250 mL] cooked pumpkin puree
- 1/2 teaspoon [125 mL] chopped nuts

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Beat together shortening, sugar and eggs.
- Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and ground clove; mix into first mixture.
- Stir in water and pumpkin puree, then chopped nuts.
- Evenly pour into a greased and floured bread loaf pan.
- Bake into preheated oven, for 45 to 60 minutes.
- Start checking after 35 minutes.
- Leave to cool in pan, onto a wire rack.
