- 1 cup [250 ml] boiling milk
- 2 tablespoons [30 ml] oil
- 2 tablespons [30 ml] sugar
- 1 envelop yeast [1 tablespoon / 15 ml]
- 3 cups [750 ml] all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 ml] salt
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 ml] nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 ml] cinnamon
- 1 beaten egg
- Frying oil
- Icing sugar

- In a large bowl, pour milk, oil and sugar.
- Mix well and cool to 10°F [-12°C].
- Add yeast; stir to dissove.
- Sift together flour, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon; add half to yeast mixture.
- Mix in beaten egg and remaining flour mixture.
- Shape into a large ball.
- Cover and let rise until doubled.
- Flatten dough with your fist; knead until elasticity.
- On a floured rolling board, roll dough until 1/3 inch [8 mm] thick.
- Cut into 2-inch [5 cm] squares.
- Cover; let rise for 45 minutes.
- Pour 3 inches [8 cm] oil in a deep-fryer; heat until 375°F [190°C].
- Add dough squares and fry until golden brown; turn and fry on other side.
- With a slotted spoon, transfer squares to paper towels to drain.
- Sprinkle generously with icing sugar.
- Serve hot.
